2nd Grade Learn to Swim Program

At the Y, we are for Youth Development: Nurturing the potential of every child…

We believe all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That’s why, through the Y, youth today are cultivating the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement.

Through our collaboration with the Perth Amboy Public School District, 2nd Grade students gain skills, confidence and knowledge of safety around water. By educating and empowering children through swimming, we develop values that inspire children to greatness. Students who participate in the Y’s Start to Swim Water Education Training (W.E.T.) Program assures each child a learning of basic water safety, swimming skills, safe pool behavior, and development of independent movement in the water.

The program will also educate and protect children in and around water. It helps to remind parents of the benefits and dangers of water play and the need to supervise children with access to water.

Children will learn:

-Water survival through demonstration, instruction and play.

-Watch age appropriate fun videos designed to illustrate drown proof techniques.

-Complete assignments and have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and water skills.
