Perth Amboy, NJ – May 15, 2024 – The Raritan Bay Area YMCA is delighted to announce the launch of an inclusive summer camp program in partnership with the NJ Children’s System of Care (PerformCare). This endeavor represents a significant milestone in their continuous dedication to fostering values of inclusivity, acceptance, and providing access to opportunities for all.
Youth whom are eligible and registered for services via the Division of Developmental Disabilities will have the invaluable opportunity to participate in the summer camp program for two weeks, at no cost to the parent(s). Participants will be integrated into the existing enrichment camp curriculum, allowing connections with fellow campers, an opportunity often unavailable to youth with special needs. This approach aims to cultivate a strong sense of belonging and camaraderie within our camp community.
By providing a safe and nurturing camp experience for youth, we aim to offer parents the peace of mind they deserve, knowing their children are not only cared for but also engaged in meaningful activities. The goal of the Raritan Bay Area YMCA is to create an environment where children can thrive socially, emotionally, and intellectually, promoting growth and development, regardless of their abilities.
"This program holds profound significance for us, representing another stride in our ongoing mission to serve and create impactful experiences for the youth in our community, especially those who are historically underserved." says Alejandrina Batista, Director of Mental Health Services. "This inclusive summer camp program will be the first of its kind for our Y and our community and we are deeply honored to embark on this journey.”
Please be advised that participation in our inclusive summer camp program requires youth to have already completed registration with the NJ Children’s System of Care (PerformCare) and to be ‘DD eligible’. It is crucial to note that the duration for eligibility determination varies based on multiple factors and is subject to PerformCare's discretion. For eligibility details, please contact PerformCare at 1-877-652-7624.
