AN UPDATE FROM OUR CEO ABOUT THE CORONAVIRUS

March 14, 2020
Dear YMCA Members,

At the Raritan Bay Area YMCA, we are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone who enters our doors. We are closely monitoring the global COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation and are taking steps to protect the health and wellness of our staff, members, program participants and community members.

While we are not making any changes to our schedule at this time, we value your membership and want to share some operational changes that may be necessary in the near future:

  • Until further notice, all community or special events beyond our regularly scheduled YMCA programs are canceled. This includes Open Houses and Healthy Kids Day.
  • Program class limits of maximum capacity will be enforced, including group exercise programs.
  • Nationwide Memberships across the state of NJ have been temporarily suspended.
  • Guest passes will not be available for purchase until further notice
  • In the event that we are notified of a branch member who has tested positive, we will close any affected facility or program location for 24-48 hours for an additional deep cleaning and disinfection. Verification of medical clearance is required to return.
  • For the safety of those vulnerable individuals who visit our Smith Street Center, we have closed day services for the foreseeable future.
  • Before and After Care Services are suspended while schools are closed.
  • In the event that the local school district closes their elementary schools, and our Y has the ability to safely stay open, we may plan to provide YMCA Day Care at the Y’s Early Learning Center.

Your health and safety is important to all of us at the Y. If you or a loved one are experiencing flu-like symptoms, including fever, cough, and shortness of breath, please stay home, rest, and contact your medical provider.

A local cleaning company, and our Staff, has and will continue to clean your Y, and special care is taken by Y staff to meet quality standards in place year-round that keep our facility clean and safe.

While no one can predict with certainty whether the United States will be severely impacted by coronavirus, we are monitoring the situation and will keep all members updated with information as it develops. Please visit our website at www.rbaymca.org or check social media for periodic updates as we strive to keep you informed.

Additionally, we encourage everyone to regularly check the CDC’s website or State of NJ website for important updates and safety information. The American Academy of Pediatrics also has helpful information specific to children and families.

Sincerely,

Steve Jobin
President & CEO
