Parent Orientation and Swim Lesson Evaluation Private or Semi-Private Swim Lessons Parent Child and Preschool Classes Youth and Teen Classes Adult and Active Adult Classes Special Needs Swim Class Parent Orientation and Swim Lesson Evaluation Parent Orientation to Swim Lessons This FREE 1/2 hour overview of the Raritan Bay Area YMCA Progressive Learn-to-Swim Program will introduce parents to the facility and lesson structure. It will identify ways parents or caregivers can help prepare their child for a positive swimming lesson experience. Parents will receive a handout reviewing aquatic rules and what the prerequisites are for advancement in the swim levels. Second Tuesday of every month. Swim Lesson Evaluation Start your swimmer off on the right stroke this season! If you canÕt find the right class or think your child has moved up since his/her last class, you can bring your swimmer in to be tested. This will ensure that your child will be taught at his/her appropriate level. It takes only a couple of minutes for an instructor to evaluate your child's swimming ability. Contact the Aquatics office to schedule an appointment.

Private or Semi-Private Swim Lessons These lessons are for swimmers who need one-on-one training or need to be in a small class environment to learn. Our certified swim instructors can help you or your child to overcome any fears, work on strokes and set up personal goals. These five (5) half hour lessons are scheduled on Friday, 4:30 pm - 5:00 pm. Depending on pool space and instructor availability, other times may be arranged. Private lessons are time sensitive and must be used during a two month period. Cancellation of a lesson must be done three (3) hours prior to the lesson with Aquatics Department. If notice is not received you will be charged for the cost of that lesson.Please call the Aquatics Department to schedule these lessons. Private Lesson (One-On-One). 1 Private Half Hour Lesson.

Parent Child and Preschool Classes Shrimp/Kipper (Ages: 6-17 months) This class introduces water in a fun way to infants, toddlers and a parent. Children learn basic arm and leg movements while singing songs and playing games. You and your child will have a comfortable and enjoyable introductory experience in the water. Swim With Me (Ages: 4 - 6 years) Want your child to feel supported and comfortable in the water? Parental presence in our Swim with Me program will help you and your child achieve this goal. Swimmers in this program have had two or more previous swim lessons, are reluctant to enter the water or be submerged, and require constant flotation support. Tumbling and Swimming (Ages: 18 months - 2 years) Parents and toddlers will meet together in the gym for a half hour of tumbling activities followed by a half hour of pool time. This is a great way to make new friends and introduce a variety of experiences at an early age. Parents will bond with their toddlers while improving their childÕs motor skills, coordination, agility, and flexibility. Pre-requisites: Children who are not toilet trained must wear a swim diaper and rubber pants under their swimsuits. Parent must go in the water with their toddler. Gather together with new friends for a half hour of activities in the gym followed by a half hour structured swim lesson in our heated pool. Parents, dress your child for swim under their gym clothes for a quick change before going into the pool. Please be at the pool 5 minutes prior to the end of dismissal. Pike (Ages: 3-4 years) If your child has never been in the water or prefers not to get his or her face wet or can swim with a flotation device, this is a great water adjustment class for the beginner swimmer who has never been in the water. Eel (Ages: 3 - 4 years) Eel is a program for swimmers who have completed Pikes or can swim 10 feet front crawl independently without assistance. Swimmers will work to develop endurance on their front and back and be introduced to the crawl stroke (reaching arms out of water). They can also place their face in the water and swim 10 feet paddle stroke on front and back without a flotation device and jump into water with assistance. Wednesday, 3:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Starfish (Ages: 3 - 4 years) An advanced swimming class for those who have taken the Ray class or are able to swim 20 feet of strong front crawl and 15 feet on their backs. Youth and Teen Classes Polliwogs Part I (Ages: 5 - 8 years) Polliwog is the beginning level for school-age children with little or no experience in the water. Guppies (Ages: 5 - 8 years) The guppies' class is for swimmers who have completed Polliwog/Eel or can swim 15 feet on their front without a flotation device. Swimmers continue to build confidence in their abilities by practicing paddle stroke skills, floating and rotary breathing without the aid of floatation devices. Minnows For swimmers who can swim 25 yards strong front crawl and back crawl. Minnows continue to develop endurance by swimming 25 yards to refine know strokes. During this intermediate level swimmers will also build onto synchronized swimming, wet ball, and diving skills. Porpoise At this final level, students are exposed to a wide range of aquatic experiences through a class format. In class these advanced swimmers learn new strokes and rescue skills, as well as develop volunteerism and leadership skills. GuardStart Lifeguarding Tomorrow GuardStart is designed to prepare participants 11 to 14 years of age to take the American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification program and to prepare for future work as lifeguards. The GuardStart program helps participants build a foundation of knowledge as well as develop the attitudes and skills they will need to be responsible lifeguards. Lessons are grouped into five main areas: prevention, fitness, response, leadership and professionalism. Participants must be able to swim 25 yards front crawl continuously while breathing to the front or side, tread water for 1 minute using arms and legs, and submerge and swim a distance of 10 feet underwater. Arthritis Aquatic Program Have an enjoyable workout experience in the water! The Arthritis Aquatics Program allows you to exercise without putting excess strain on your joints and muscles. Fitness Swim Whether you are considering a triathlon or not, get your total body workout in the pool. This lap swimming program is designed to work and lengthen every muscle group while performing non-weight bearing cardiovascular exercise. This is not an instructional class but gather together with people similarly interested in mixing up their fitness regime. Perfect for adults interested in triathlon training. Must be able to swim at least freestyle, breast stroke, and back stroke. Thursdays, 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Mini-Bluefish Swim Team The Mini-Bluefish Swim Team will begin their 1st season of training at the Raritan Bay Area YMCA and we would like to invite you to join in the fun! This team is for children ages 5 - 7 who are interested in swim team but not ready to compete. The YMCA coaching staff will work in and out of the water on endurance, strokes, basic swim team fundamentals and sportsmanship. Mini swimmers can move up from part I to part II when skills are met. Parents can schedule an evaluation for their swimmers to make sure they are in the appropriate miniÕs group. Mini-Bluefish Evaluation The YMCA coaching staff will evaluate each swimmer and advise the parent on which Mini's Team is appropriate for their child. Swimmers are recommended to wear their swim cap and have a pair of good fitting goggles for their evaluation. Mini-Bluefish Part I Mini-Bluefish Part I meets twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 - 4:45 pm. They will focus on basic swim team fundamentals, skill improvement, exercise, competitive techniques, and fun. Pre-requisite for Part I: Swimmers must be able to swim 1/2 lap front crawl and 1/2 lap backstroke. Mini-Bluefish Part II Mini-Bluefish Part II meets twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 - 4:45 pm. They will focus on advanced swim team fundamentals, further skill improvement, exercise, competitive techniques, and fun. Pre-requisite for Part II: Swimmers must be recommended by a coach or be tested before the program starts. Swimmers must be able to swim 1 lap continuous front crawl. Bay City Bluefish YMCA Swim Team The Raritan Bay Area Bay City Bluefish Swim Team in now forming and offering a rewarding training and competitive experience to swimmers of all ability and interest levels. Coaches will work on advanced stroke techniques, endurance, discipline, and team spirit. Pre-requisite: Swimmers should be able to swim 3 out of the 4 competitive strokes 1 length of the pool. Swimmers will be assessed and grouped for appropriate practice time to maximize their learning ability. No swimmer can change a group assignment unless instructed to do so by a coach. Bay City Bluefish Swimmers Clinic and Evaluation The YMCA coaching staff will evaluate each swimmer during this one week swim clinic. Coaches will review the four competitive strokes and turns. At the end of the week, swimmers will be assigned a practice time. Swimmers must wear their swim cap and have a pair of good fitting goggles for their evaluation. Special Needs Swim Class Raritan Bay Area YMCA is proud to announce a SPECIAL NEEDS SWIM CLASS specifically designed for children, teens and adults with special needs. The developmental swim program uses water education to practice water safety and swimming skills. The program also focuses on developing self-confidence and self-esteem and is customized for emotional and developmental abilities. The goal of this class is to help each participant become physically active and learn the life- saving skill of swimming. Participants will work one-on-one with a certified swim instructor. A State Certified Special Education Teacher will oversee the participants with their one-on-one swim instruction with one of our certified instructors. Wednesday, 6:15 pm - 7:00 pm
